Interior and Exterior Renovations M&R Station Cape Hatteras

The Project : The 2-story M&R Station in North Carolina’s Hatteras Inlet commissioned Edgewater Construction Services to perform its exterior and interior renovations to create functional areas that accommodate the Coast Guard’s modern mission: conducting search and rescue, boating safety education and enforcement, marine law enforcement, and marine environmental protection operations.

The Station houses a boat crew available 24 hours a day and is responsible for over 2350 square nautical miles including the (“Graveyard of the Atlantic”)

Edgewater renovated the first floor command center and the personnel berthing on the second floor that created new functional spaces, a new ADA unisex toilet facility, egress and fire-rated materials, relocation of laundry to upstairs wet room, updated bathroom and shower facilities and new finishes throughout.

The existing wood fire escape was removed and replaced with a new custom fabricated aluminum fire escape. Windows were replaced with new aluminum, thermally broken, single hung windows and partnered with Bermuda hurricane shutters and tuck pointed approximately 40% of the brickwork.

The Challenge : Maintain mission-critical capabilities during demolition and construction.

Value Added : Edgewater provided temporary command center spaces to supply the USCG seamless mission-ready status.

Client : USCG Hatteras Inlet
Location : Hatteras, North Carolina
