Design-Build Renovation Environment of Care – Halls and Walls

The Project : Edgewater Construction Services’ Design-Build team was selected to design and construct an improved way-finding system throughout H.H. McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA. The scope included removal of the existing flooring and installation of over 35,000 SF of new flooring, remove and replace the facility’s existing ceiling system, wall finishes, crash rails, and lighting fixtures.

The Design Challenge: Design flooring and lighting systems that would singularly resolve the way-finding issues, enhance infection prevention and improve visibility levels.

Value Added: Edgewater’s Design-Build solution was to design and install wood flooring with distinctive two tone patterns with seamless finishes in light color palettes to resolve both infection prevention as well as enhance the guide system and new lighting to further amplify visibility.

The Challenge Part 2: The scope of the project, which encompassed the entire facility, posed a vulnerability that could result in schedule-creep due to frequent starts and stops to accommodate VA staff and patient activities.

Value Added Part 2: Edgewater concentrated on flexibility, increased communications and collaboration to resolve the issue whereby renovations could be completed during off hours to reduce interruptions to operations.
